PTCL gives everyone call waiting April 29, 2005

PTCL seems to have turned on Call Waiting for everyone. There is general confusion as to why we now suddenly get beeps during calls and why internet dialup connections fail even more quickly than usual.
Apparently if you hear the beep you can dial ‘flash’ followed by a 1 to get the call that is waiting.
Don’t know how to turn this facility off. It remains to be seen if PTCL charges us for this.

PTA threatens Ufone over its bad service, although I would say that it is much better than that of Mobilink.

Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has called for efforts to secure information being stored and processed through information technology to ensure accuracy and transparency in the transactions.
With the IT growing Information and Network security is becoming increasingly important, however there is a growing realisation that Pakistani security resources are very scarce. At the moment there are only 2 companies specialising in IT security, PakCERT a security research company and Xnet Solutions a manufacturer of hardware firewalls. This is clearly not enough, although many consultancies do work in the security field

The PTA allows Pakcom Limited (parent company of Instaphone) to pay the license renewal fee of $291 million in installments over 15 years.

Abu Dhabi - A second operator could enter the UAE market to offer mobile telephony alongwith fixed land lines as the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) is working out the legal frame work, clearing the way for competition.

Etisalat recently entered the big market of Saudi Arabia after taking over stakes in Sudan Telecom, Qatar, Zanzibar. It is now eying Pakistan as well as Tanzania.
